| ABOUT US Who are we?
We are Kingston Volunteer Centre (KVC), a registered charity that exists to promote and develop volunteering throughout the Royal Borough of Kingston. We provide advice and information to people interested in volunteering and match their skills to organisations that register volunteering opportunities with us. We have over 190 organisations registered with us offering hundreds of opportunities. How can you volunteer?
You can make an appointment to come and have a chat about what you would like to do. You can request a registration pack be sent to you and we will send you details of organisations that match your skills and interests. You can also register on-line.
KVC aims to ensure that volunteers working in organisations, for which KVC provides service, are not discriminated against. Where discrimination does occur, KVC staff commit themselves to taking positive action against discrimination.
We believe it is our duty and he duty of all organisations working with volunteers to advocate the needs of disadvanged volunteers.
KVC aims to promote equal opportunities in all aspects of its work. The main way we do this are outlined in our policy.
Who can volunteer?
Absolutely anyone and everyone! We particularly need people who have skills to help small charities develop. Many retired people have the time and skills that would make a real difference to our local community. Why volunteer?
The skills that volunteers contribute make our Borough a nicer place for us all to live in and benefits everybody. You can make new friends, develop new skills, help others, increase your confidence or just get involved for sheer enjoyment. Get inspired - give a little time and make the world of difference. If you want to play a bigger part in local life then what are you waiting for? What kind of opportunities are available?
There are many opportunities to appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds, including:
- Becoming a Committee Member
- Befriending an adult with a learning disability
- Helping isolated people by shopping, gardening or just visiting
- Fundraising
- Arts and Crafts
- And much, much more! How much of my time will it take?
It's entirely up to you. You can help on a regular basis, take part in one-off activities, commit a day a week or an afternoon a month. Remember that most organisations are so grateful for a bit of help that they will be extremely flexible. Reliability is much more important. Will I be on my own?
You don't have to jump in at the deep end. Most organisations will provide training and regular support from paid and qualified staff. It is also worth remembering that if you incur any expenses the organisation will re-imburse you.
